World Tourism Day marks the debut of Cinnamon Life’s “Beach Care” project
The launch of Cinnamon Life’s ‘Beach Care’ initiative on World Tourism Day, which focuses on sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka, particularly its stunning coastline. The event at Uswetakeiyawa Beach aimed to protect the beach’s natural beauty by involving employees in a clean-up operation, during which they removed over 400 kilograms of plastic waste. The initiative also includes installing a permanent garbage bin to encourage sustainable practices amongst the local community. As highlighted by Sameera Ranasinghe, this project reflects Cinnamon Life’s commitment to merging tourism with environmental sustainability, ensuring that future generations can enjoy Sri Lanka’s beauty.
- Environmental: It addresses the pressing need for actions against plastic pollution in tourist locales, highlighting the critical role of tourism stakeholders in environmental protection.
- Social: The initiative emphasizes community involvement and collective action, fostering a sense of local stewardship and responsibility for natural resources.
- Economic: Sustainable tourism is beneficial for not just the environment but also the economy, as preserving natural beauty directly impacts tourism appeal and revenue.
- Cultural: The act of protecting natural beauty resonates with the cultural identity of Sri Lanka, reinforcing the link between the island’s beauty and its heritage.
